Two Women Diagnosed with Fistula in Oti Region

Oti Region: Two women in the Oti Region have been diagnosed with fistula, a condition that causes constant leakage of urine and stool, significantly impacting a woman's quality of life.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Veronica Kaka, Oti Regional Public Health Nurse, confirmed that efforts are underway to provide surgical repair for the affected women. She explained that fistula is a serious medical condition that occurs when there is an abnormal hole in the birth canal caused by prolonged and obstructed labor during childbirth, usually occurring between the intestines, bladder, and the female organ.

Madam Kaka stated that this condition could lead to constant leakage of urine or stool, resulting in physical discomfort, emotional distress, and social isolation. She added that the Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is working to provide necessary medical care and surgical attention to the women.

She informed GNA that due to the region's shortage of specialist doctors, the procedure would be carried out in collaboration with larger facilities in cities. Ms. Kaka urged women experiencing similar issues to report to nearby health facilities for medical attention and support.

This initiative aims to improve the well-being of women in the Oti Region and address the challenges posed by fistula.
