Tema: The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has donated various items to the Tema Traditional Council to support the 2025 Homowo festival celebrations. The festival, which signifies ‘hooting at hunger,’ is an important cultural event for the Ga people in the Greater Accra Region, with Tema’s festivities set to begin on Friday, August 1, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donated items include gallons of palm oil, fish, alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, maize, bottled water, schnapps, cartons of fish, and an undisclosed sum of money. Nii Amarh Somponu II, the Tema Shipi and Stool Secretary, praised the TWMA for their generosity but emphasized the need for Tema’s representation within the assembly.

Nii Somponu highlighted that Tema West is situated between the Tema and Nungua Traditional Areas, with significant portions of Tema lands falling within the Tema West Municipality. He argued that, like Nungua, Tema deserves representation among government appointees. “Since it is an assembly serving dual townships, we must get a fair representation there,” he asserted.

In response to this request, Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh encouraged the Tema Traditional Council to submit a formal proposal for consideration. “In everything, we need to dialogue; we will come back to them. I will call on them, too, to make it official for us to respond appropriately. It’s not a bad call; it means they want to be part of the activities and want a stake in it. We will use official means to respond accordingly,” he stated.

Regarding the donation, Totimeh mentioned that as officials operating within the traditional area, it was essential to contribute to the Homowo celebrations, demonstrating their support for the cultural heritage of the region.
