TVET Institutions Shine in Drama Competition Held in Accra

Accra: Four Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions showcased their theatrical talents in a drama competition organized by Theatrical Harmony Productions in Accra. The event, themed 'The Roots of Drama,' aimed to bolster drama clubs within technical schools and encourage student confidence, language skills, and self-expression.

According to Ghana News Agency, the participating schools were Kanda Technical Institute, Teshie Technical Institute, Afienya Technical Institute, and Madina Technical Institute. Dr. Sarah Dorgbadzi-Ossei, Head of the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana's School of Performing Arts, emphasized the significance of these platforms in nurturing identity, self-esteem, and pride among TVET students. She remarked on the importance of inclusion, stating that such events affirm students' sense of belonging and boost their confidence and pride in their institutions.

Dr. Dorgbadzi-Ossei also expressed her hope for the full integration of theatre into TVET education, highlighting its potential to positively influence other disciplines and communities. Each participating school was given 45 minutes to an hour to perform, with Kanda Technical Institute clinching the top spot, followed by Afienya Technical Institute in second place. Madina and Teshie Technical Institutes secured the third and fourth positions, respectively.

The judges praised the students for their creativity, stage presence, and language proficiency, urging continued investment in theatre and the arts within technical institutions. The competition not only revealed emerging talent but also highlighted the importance of drama in comprehensive education, especially within the TVET sector.
