Accra: Trasacco Estates Development Company Limited has reaffirmed its respect for Ghana's Muslim community while insisting on its legal rights and ownership of the lands at Borteyman in Accra. The company has addressed concerns about the framing of the issue in religious terms, emphasizing the legal aspects of the land ownership conflict.
According to Ghana News Agency, Trasacco stated that its claim to the disputed land was lawfully acquired through the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) between 2014 and 2016, adhering to all necessary procedures. The company highlighted that TDC records confirmed a legitimate allocation of 26 acres to the Muhajirun African American Islamic Institute (MAAII) in 1981, not the 72 acres being circulated in the media.
Trasacco alleged that portions of the land initially granted to the Institute had been sold or transferred to private developers, which diverted it from its intended use for schools, mosques, and community projects. The company expressed concern that once the original claims were exhausted, they were expanded to cover the full 72 acres, encroaching on lawfully allocated properties.
In response to allegations of misconduct and attempts to involve the National Chief Imam and the Presidency, which both parties denied, Trasacco clarified that its land transactions had been investigated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and found to be legitimate. The company denied accusations of using intimidation, landguards, or road blockades, emphasizing its commitment to peaceful dialogue and respect for the National Chief Imam's role in promoting an amicable resolution.
Trasacco urged the Muhajirun Institute to focus on developing its allocated 26 acres instead of pursuing additional claims. The company emphasized that the issue was not a clash of faiths or a corporate land grab, but a matter of upholding legal allocations against revisionist claims.
The company reiterated its contribution to Ghana's housing sector, creating jobs and infrastructure, and pledged to defend the rights of its clients while protecting the integrity of its estates.
