Aflao: Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, has called on the government to ensure that its 'Resetting the Nation' agenda is not reduced to mere political rhetoric. Rather, it should be translated into tangible development across all sectors-particularly in Aflao. He made this appeal during a courtesy call by Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, as part of his working visit to the Ketu South Municipality on Monday.
According to Ghana News Agency, Torgbui Fiti decried the poor state of infrastructure within Ketu South, lamenting the neglect of critical road networks in Aflao. He cited major roads such as Fiti Road, Komla Dumor Road, and Diamond Cement Road, which he said remain in deplorable condition and required urgent attention. He also expressed disappointment over the lack of financial support or budgetary allocation from the Municipal Assembly to the Aflao Traditional Council, despite the council's relevance and the area's economic contributions.
Torgbui Fiti highlighted that there is no statutory allocation for the Traditional Council, not even from the revenue generated at the Aflao border. He reminded the Minister of promises made by the President, including the construction of a modern market and a sports stadium in Aflao. He assured the government of the traditional council's readiness to support the projects and confirmed that land is readily available for both initiatives.
In addition, he appealed to the Minister to lobby for a government appointment for the NDC Constituency Chairman of Ketu South in recognition of his dedication and contribution to the party's success in the area. In response, Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, assured Torgbui Fiti that the government remains committed to developing the area. He revealed that plans are far advanced for the construction of an ultra-modern market in Aflao, envisioned to be one of the largest in the country and beyond.
The Minister also commended the President's decision to merge the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs with the Ministry of Local Government, a move he described as strategic for improving coordination and traditional governance. 'The President is known for keeping his promises. Your concerns will be duly communicated, and I believe they will be addressed to bring the needed transformation to Aflao,' Mr. Gunu assured. The Minister also used the opportunity to inspect the proposed site for the modern market project. He visited some of the key roads highlighted by Torgbui Fiti as needing urgent attention.
