Tema: The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has initiated a crucial step towards accountability by commissioning a seven-member team tasked with investigating, assessing, and reclaiming assets belonging to the Assembly.According to Ghana News Agency, the team includes heads from various departments such as Works, Physical Planning, Estates, Legal, Internal Audit, and Administration, alongside an Assembly Member. This initiative was announced by Ms. Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, during her sessional address at a General Assembly meeting.Ms. Bright emphasized the importance of this mission, stating, "I have commissioned a seven-member team to investigate, assess, and recover every asset that belongs to the people of Tema. This isn't about territory, it is about resources that should be serving our citizens." The team's primary objective is to create a comprehensive register of TMA's properties spread across Ashaiman, Sakumono, Kpone, and other areas, ensuring that any property wrongfully occupied will be reclaimed. She highlighted that many of the Assembly's buildings, vehicles, and equipment are currently in poor condition or unusable, which has been financially burdensome for TMA. The properties are dispersed throughout the Tema Acquisition Area, including Ashaiman, Sakumono, and Kpone, with several embroiled in legal issues or found in deplorable states within the metro itself.Ms. Bright also mentioned the potential relocation of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit to facilitate the demolition of its current deteriorated structure. Furthermore, the head of the Works Department is spearheading a cross-departmental team to present a detailed renovation and recovery strategy and associated costs for all departments and units.Additionally, the Management Information Services Unit is conducting assessments on office equipment and networking needs, planning necessary actions for their effective management.
