The Third Cohort of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) is slated for September 10 to 13, 2024, at the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UniMAC), Dzorwulu Campus in Accra.The training is open to journalists and media practitioners across the country to enhance their knowledge and crafts in journalism, as well as safeguard the country's fledgling democracy.The Working Committee for the MCEP said 100 journalists and media practitioners working in the various radio, television, newspaper, and new media outlets are eligible to apply through a Google portal from August 23, 2024.The portal for application will be uploaded onto the Ministry of Information's social media handles.The Minister of Information, Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, launched the Third Cohort of the MCEP in Accra during the Minister's news briefing on Thursday.Since the inception of the programme in 2021 with the maiden training organised in Kumasi in November 2022, more than 100 journalists and media practitioners ha d benefitted from the training, she said.The programme, funded by the Government, through the Ministry of Information, is intended to offer refreshing courses for media practitioners to improve the quality of their work, enhance ethical journalism and professionalism, as well as enable the media to hold duty-bearers accountable.Madam Gloria Hiadzi, the Chairperson of MCEP, said 40 journalists selected for the training would participate in person at the UniMAC campus in Dzorwulu while 60 of them would join the training virtually or online.Some experienced media lecturers and experts from renowned journalism institutions would take the trainees through various modules including Impact Journalism, Media Ethics, Media Law, Media's Role in Socio-Economic Development and Nation Building, Digital Media and Online Journalism.Source: Ghana News Agency
