Tema: The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) in the Greater Accra Region has announced plans to review its sanitation management contracts by September 2025, as revealed by Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Municipal Chief Executive. The initiative aims to align sanitation services with the needs of the constituents.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Totimeh emphasized the necessity of this review to enhance sanitation within the municipality. Currently, the Assembly collaborates with six sanitation management companies and is considering rezoning sanitation areas into smaller units to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Mr. Totimeh highlighted that one of President John Dramani Mahama’s key performance indicators was ensuring adherence to proper sanitation practices nationwide. He asserted that the Tema West Municipal Assembly is committed to advancing sanitation management within the municipality.

He urged eateries, pubs, bars, and other public venues to maintain strict sanitation standards and advised households against discharging effluents into public drains due to significant health risks. He warned that violators would face prosecution.

Mr. Totimeh encouraged residents to utilize the services of sanitation management companies to address community sanitation challenges. He also urged assembly members to focus on sanitation issues and promote good practices.

Highlighting a major challenge, the MCE pointed out issues with liquid waste management, noting that many sewer lines need replacement. He called on stakeholders and investors in the sanitation sector to explore improved solutions to tackle this issue.

“Our doors remain open and ready to collaborate to improve on sanitation practices within the municipality,” he stated.
