Techiman Traditional Council Refutes Alleged Attack on Otumfour’s Convoy.

Techiman: The Techiman Traditional Council has refuted allegations of an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, by some irate people of Techiman in the Bono East Region. The Asantehene was reportedly returning from Nkoranza after attending the burial and funeral rites of the late Nana Dudaa Kani, the Paramount Queenmother of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, when the said attack happened at Techiman, the regional capital.

According to Ghana News Agency, a video of the alleged attack has gone viral on social media, prompting the Techiman Traditional Council to address the issue at a news conference in Techiman. Nana Takyi Firi II, the Krontihene (sub-chief) and Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council, stated that ‘the Techiman and Asante are one people,’ dismissing the reported attack on the Asantehene’s convoy as false. He explained that the Nana Techimanhene and Otumfour are both from the Oyoko clan and consider themselves as brothers, regularly visiting and communi
cating with each other as needed.

Nana Firi II expressed his dissatisfaction with the development, emphasizing that ‘there is no way and justification that the people of Techiman will attack the Asantehene.’ He highlighted past events where Otumfour had informed the Techimanhene and paid courtesy calls to the Techiman Traditional Council, notably when Otumfour’s son, the late Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom IV, the Nkoranzamanhene, passed away. Otumfour had notified Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Techimanhene, and visited ahead of the funeral.

He further remarked that when Otumfour decided to attend the funeral in Nkoranza on December 2, 2024, he informed the Techimanhene and expressed his intention to pay a courtesy call before proceeding. Nana Firi II noted that the Techimanhene had traveled but left instructions for his elders to assist Otumfour with traditional rites for his journey. Customary rites were performed at Techiman Tanoso and on the Techiman-Nkoranza road to facilitate Otumfour’s passage.

Nana Fir
i II reiterated that Techiman is a cosmopolitan town that does not discriminate against any individual based on ethnicity, race, religion, or sex. He urged social media users to be responsible for the content they post, emphasizing that the chieftaincy institution is noble and revered. He concluded by stating that there is no animosity between the people of Techiman and those of Asantes, as they share a common destiny.
