Techiman: Mr Kwaku Agyei Mensah, the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has issued a warning to residents regarding littering and indiscriminate waste disposal. He stressed that the Assembly is actively enforcing its sanitation by-law and warned that individuals caught littering would face sanctions.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Mensah shared these remarks while speaking to the media during a clean-up exercise organized in the municipality. He highlighted that maintaining good sanitation and a healthy environment is crucial for promoting public health and enhancing productivity. The clean-up initiative, aimed at reducing filth and promoting cleanliness in the area, was a collaborative effort between Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), a waste management and sanitation firm, and the Municipal Assembly.
Mr Mensah urged stakeholders to join forces with the assembly to maintain cleanliness in the region and prevent communicable diseases outbreaks, emphasizing that the development of the municipality is a collective responsibility. He pointed out that Techiman, as a major market center and transit hub, attracts traders from neighboring countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Senegal, making it essential to uphold a positive image.
The MCE also expressed his concern about the high incidence of typhoid cases reported annually in the municipality, with over 6,000 cases recorded each year. Mr Emmanuel Abasiya, the Bono East Regional Coordinator for ZGL, reiterated the company's commitment to maintaining cleanliness in the municipality through regular clean-up exercises. He emphasized that fostering a healthier environment is a shared responsibility, encouraging stakeholders to contribute, and praised the impressive turnout for the exercise.
