Suspected Driver Held in Connection with Wife’s Death

Kumasi: A 45-year-old driver, suspected to have killed his wife, has been remanded into police custody by the Asante Akropong District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District. The plea of Albert Cobbina was not taken, and he will reappear before the court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Wiafe Adu, on September 15 this year.

According to Ghana News Agency, Police Chief Inspector David Kwabi informed the court that Cobbina and his deceased wife resided at Fankyenebra, near Santasi in the Kumasi metropolis. On August 24, Cobbina reported to the Suntreso police that his wife, Grace Asantewaa, had died in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife lying beside her.

The prosecution stated that Cobbina claimed to have rushed his wife to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment, where she subsequently died on admission. However, inconsistencies in Cobbina's statements led to his detention on suspicion. After a preliminary investigation, he was charged with the death of his wife and brought before the court, as investigations into the matter continue.
