Accra: Dr. Mildred Adusei-Poku, a Senior Lecturer in Virology at the University of Ghana Medical School, has been honoured for her dedication to leading research in respiratory viruses and HIV at the 9th edition of the Forty Under 40 Awards held on September 5th, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the award is an initiative from Xodus Communications Limited supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It aims to identify, honour, and celebrate the nation's most influential and accomplished young leaders under the age of forty, spanning various sectors.
The achievement underscores Dr. Adusei-Poku's holistic approach to co-leading Ghana's COVID-19 Testing Team at testing sites, including Noguchi Memorial Centre and Tamale. Dr. Adusei-Poku, who is widely published on infectious diseases, is a respected figure and an advocate for best healthcare practices.
The awards ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Madam Nana Oye Bampoe-Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and traditional leaders.
After receiving the award, Dr. Adusei-Poku expressed her appreciation for the recognition. She said, "I am overwhelmed with this recognition. I am most thankful to my family, colleagues, and funders who have supported me in this journey. This is just the beginning. I will remain focused on delivering cutting-edge research to shape public health and impact communities."
She also pledged to continue supporting communities with healthcare education on respiratory viruses and HIV.
