Sand Winners Advised to Practice Within the Mining Law

Accra: Nene Oman IV, the Asafoatse (sub-Chief) of the Ningo Kabiawe clan and a police prosecuting chief inspector, has advised sand winners to operate within the laws covering sand mining in Ghana. Nene Oman emphasized that while sand mining provides income for many, it is crucial to adhere strictly to the regulations governing the practice to ensure smooth operations and avoid legal issues.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nene Oman shared this advice during the election of new executives for the Ningo-Prampram, Ada Zone of the Sand, Stone, and Tipper Truck Association. He highlighted that sand mining itself is not inherently problematic, but many miners tend to violate the established rules, leading to frequent prosecutions and making the activity less attractive. He also cautioned that operating on lands restricted by court orders could result in contempt charges, urging miners to respect legal boundaries.

Mr. Lyngstern Whyte, the newly elected chairman of the association, expressed gratitude to the members for their support. He revealed his vision to address the challenges affecting their operations and emphasized the importance of conducting business lawfully. Mr. Whyte called on stakeholders to support their efforts in legal compliance and assured that the association would streamline operations by securing land through proper channels before initiating mining activities.

He further encouraged members to adhere to established procedures when addressing grievances to maintain peace in the sector. The newly elected executive members include Mr. Samuel O. Kumordzi, Vice Chairman; Mr. Tetteh Pinto, Secretary; Mr. Emmanuel Asigbe, Organiser; and Mr. Agbo Yazeed Nartey, Treasurer.
