State Burial Honours Fallen Heroes in Sekondi-Takoradi Helicopter Tragedy

Sekondi-takoradi: Some residents in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region have commended the state for mourning and honouring the memories of the eight departed souls in the tragic helicopter crash with dignity.

According to Ghana News Agency, the residents expressed their appreciation for the events held nationwide in memory of the deceased, particularly the state burial, which they believe was conducted with dignity and pride. Mr. Alfred Quayson, a local resident, noted the challenges faced by the country over the past few days, but praised the state and government for their respectful handling of the ceremonies dedicated to the fallen heroes.

He expressed hope that the sacrifices made by the eight gallant men would inspire a renewed commitment to the services they died for, while also praying for strength and comfort for the bereaved families.

Another resident, Mr. Prince Awotwe, paid tribute to the fallen heroes, emphasizing that their stories, legacies, and memories would continue to resonate within the community. He also called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the crash to ensure measures are in place to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The crash claimed the lives of prominent figures, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, late Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, late Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, late Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; Alhaji Mohammed Minuru Lumuna, late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a late National Disaster Management Organisation Deputy Director. Additionally, the crew members, late Wing Commander Peter Anala, late Flight Lieutenant Manean Twum Ampadu, and late Flight Sargent Ernest Mensah Addo, perished when their GAF Z9 helicopter crashed en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
