SDA Church Lays Foundation Stone for First Police Church at National Police Training School

Accra: The Seventh-day Adventist Church has laid a foundation stone for the first-ever Seventh-day Adventist police church in the country at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the church building will feature a base with offices, washrooms, and sitting areas, a first floor serving as the main church auditorium, and a gallery. The total cost of the project is estimated at GHS 4.5 million, with an expected completion timeline of 18 months. The church auditorium will have a seating capacity of 900, while the gallery will accommodate 400, making it a 1300-capacity building.

The initiative for the church arose following the induction of the first Adventist pastor in the police chaplaincy in 2023. This led the Ghana Police Service to allocate land at the National Police Training School to construct a dedicated place for Adventist worshippers. Pastor Dr. Thomas Techie Ocran, President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference of the SDA Church, praised the police administration for their support and urged Adventists and the public to contribute to the building project.

He emphasized the importance of providing a place of worship for police personnel to support their spiritual well-being. DCOP Very Rev. Fr. George Arthur, Chaplaincy General of the Ghana Police Service, affirmed the service's commitment to the physical and spiritual welfare of its officers, encouraging believers to back the project.

ASP Samuel Danso Marfo, Pastor in charge of the Police Depot SDA Church, noted that the completed church would offer a space for police recruits and church members to worship and find solace. He expressed hope that the church would inspire both the police administration and the broader community.

During a fundraising exercise, members and well-wishers made financial contributions, including a GHS 3,000 donation from Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Presidential Aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), through a representative. The Accra City Conference of the SDA is dedicated to seeing the project through, with support from the Accra Newtown District of the Church.
