Saltpond Homecoming Festival Launched with Calls for Unity to Rebuild Community

Saltpond: The Mfantseman-Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA) has launched its first Saltpond homecoming with a call on all natives, particularly the youth, to unite for sustainable development. The weeklong celebration is themed 'Reuniting our Roots, Reimagining the Future,' and will conclude with a grand durbar on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event, known as 'SaltpondFest 2025,' will feature a variety of activities including heritage tours, clean-up campaigns, youth competitions, a fancy dress carnival, food fairs, and health screenings. The festival aims to rebuild, connect, and inspire pride and courage among the youth for a brighter future and for generations yet unborn.

The festival will also include a legacy project focused on establishing a sustainable water system for the Saltpond Municipality Hospital. The Founder and President of MSDA, Mr. Ernest De-Graft Egyir, emphasized that the festival is not merely a celebration but a pivotal moment to reunite people from home and abroad, promote tourism, showcase local businesses, and nurture young talents to create a lasting impact on the community.

Mr. Egyir highlighted the necessity for natives to take proactive steps to advance their heritage, as relying solely on history would not address the needs of feeding children, employing youth, and overcoming community challenges. MSDA was established to empower the people of Mfantseman and Saltpond through cultural celebrations, civic unity, and sustainable development, aiming to build a future firmly rooted in identity and inspired by progress.

The alliance emerged from the vision that Mfantseman's future should be shaped by its own people, grounded in their identity, with a focus on transforming the Municipality through community-led initiatives.
