Ventspils: A court in Latvia has sentenced a Russian blogger to one year in prison for publicly glorifying war crimes, the Latvian newspaper Latvijas Avize reported on Thursday. The individual is set to be deported after serving the sentence, though the ruling is not yet legally binding, allowing for the possibility of an appeal.
According to Ghana News Agency, the blogger, who was tried in the port city of Ventspils, denied the allegations during the trial. The charges were based on four videos he reportedly published on TikTok, in which he allegedly glorified and justified potential war crimes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine.
The accused Russian citizen had been residing in Latvia, a member of NATO and the European Union, with a residence permit valid until the middle of next year. This case highlights ongoing tensions and legal actions related to the conflict in Ukraine and its representation on social media platforms.
