Reopened Ghana Embassy in Washington DC Issues Over 800 Visas on First Day of Resumption

Washington DC: Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced that Ghana's recently reopened embassy in Washington DC issued over 800 visas on Thursday, marking the first day of its resumption.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister expressed his expectation that the embassy would maintain this level of efficiency, professionalism, and integrity. He praised the newly appointed team of seasoned diplomats for their successful implementation of system overhauls and institutional improvements.

The Minister emphasized that this achievement demonstrated the capabilities of Ghanaian diplomats when they are supported by the right environment and leadership. He also addressed rumors about staffing changes, stating that there have been no new recruitments to replace lost jobs at the Washington embassy. Instead, the existing team of experienced diplomats is leading ongoing reforms as part of a broader effort to restore the image of Ghana's diplomatic missions.

Additionally, Mr Ablakwa highlighted a recent discovery of an unauthorized and illegal agreement between Fred Kwarteng and a top official at the Washington Embassy. This agreement has been declared void and will no longer be acknowledged. The Minister indicated that more information on this issue, along with details on frozen accounts and other corrective measures, will be shared when he addresses Parliament next week.
