PRETAG Urges Government to Provide Incentives for Teachers in Deprived Areas

General

Sunyani: The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) has made a public appeal for the government to introduce allowances and incentives for teachers working in deprived and hard-to-reach communities across the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, the association, previously known as the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT-GH), is also urging the government to take additional steps to improve the working conditions of teachers. The call was made by Mr. Owusu Achiaw, Chairman of the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Chapter of PRETAG, in an interview marking the annual Workers Day celebration, commonly known as May Day.

Mr. Achiaw emphasized that with appropriate allowances and incentives, teachers stationed in these challenging areas would be more motivated to enhance the academic performance of students. He stated that such measures would encourage teachers to accept postings in these communities and remain committed to their roles.

While acknowledging the government’s current efforts to improve teachers’ working conditions, Mr. Achiaw also urged for continued and increased support to ensure teachers receive the necessary resources and encouragement to perform optimally.
