TEMA: The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has taken a significant step to empower 19 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) within the municipality by providing them with essential items to help expand their businesses. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the economic independence of PwDs and is funded through the Disability Fund, which constitutes three percent of the District Assembly Common Fund.According to Ghana News Agency, the items distributed included chest freezers and industrial sewing machines, purchased at a total cost of GHs162,000. Ms. Felicia Edem Attipoe, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, highlighted that the selection of items was based on consultations with the beneficiaries to ensure they receive equipment tailored to their business needs. Ms. Attipoe emphasized the assembly's commitment to monitoring the beneficiaries through regular visits, ensuring the items are used effectively. She urged recipients to reach out to the assembly for support in overcoming any challenges.Ms. Att ipoe shared that approximately 80 percent of previous beneficiaries have successfully used the provided items to enhance their livelihoods. She reiterated the assembly's commitment to continuous education on business management and sustainability. Furthermore, she encouraged parents of children with disabilities to seek assistance from the social welfare department, rather than keeping their children hidden due to societal stigma.In light of the upcoming general elections, Ms. Attipoe also called for the public to maintain peace and civility in the municipality. Mr. Dennis Opoku Koranteng, a fashion designer, expressed gratitude for receiving an industrial sewing machine, stating that it would significantly aid in expanding his business and improve his work efficiency.
