Bawku: President John Dramani Mahama has announced his intention to make nominations for various security ministries and agencies within this week to address security concerns in the country. The President disclosed this during a visit to Bawku, where he met with Bawku Naba, Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Overlord of Kusaug Traditional Area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the visit is part of President Mahama's efforts to engage with feuding factions and stakeholders to resolve the longstanding Bawku Chieftaincy conflict. President Mahama assured the local chiefs and residents of his commitment to securing lasting peace in Bawku to foster socio-economic development.

President Mahama stated that appointments for positions such as Minister of Defence, Minister of the Interior, National Security Advisor, National Security Coordinator, and National Intelligence Bureau Director would be made this week. He emphasized that addressing the Bawku conflict would be a top priority for these officials.

During his campaign, Mahama had pledged to prioritize peace in Bawku if elected President. He reiterated this commitment, noting that his visit to Bawku was his first major assignment outside Accra since taking office. President Mahama acknowledged the challenges faced by Bawku residents over the past three years and stressed the government's priority to restore peace, allowing people to conduct their daily activities without fear. He appealed for patience from the local community as the government works towards a permanent resolution.
