Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has directed the cancellation of payment of fuel allowances and allocation of fuel to all his political appointees. A statement issued by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister in-charge of Government Communications, said the directive formed part of a broader curb in government expenditure aimed at cutting costs and channeling public funds into priority areas.
According to Ghana News Agency, the President believed that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it was calling on the people to make. The statement noted that the latest cost-cutting measure followed sweeping reductions in the size of government through the appointment of fewer Ministers and Presidential Office staff.
It further stated that other measures had included stopping satellite TV subscriptions for offices at the Presidency and other government facilities.
