Koforidua: President John Dramani Mahama has assured the SDA College of Education in Koforidua of the government's plans to provide them with a male hostel and a multi-purpose lecture hall complex and auditorium. The President made this announcement while launching the Government's 'No Fees Stress Policy' initiative at the college.
According to Ghana News Agency, the pledge came in response to a request from Professor Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah, the Principal of the SDA College of Education. The principal had requested government support for a multi-purpose lecture hall and auditorium, which he noted would be named after President Mahama.
The 'No Fees Stress Policy' is a fulfillment of President Mahama's campaign promise aimed at boosting enrollment into the nation's tertiary institutions by providing free tuition for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions. President Mahama explained that during preparations for the policy launch at the college, he inquired about the institution's pressing needs, which led to the decision to provide the requested facilities.
President Mahama mentioned consulting with Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, resulting in the agreement to allocate government budget funds for the construction of the facilities. The President also addressed the need for mobility vehicles, disclosing the Ministry of Education's plan to order 66-seater buses for tertiary institutions, with the SDA College set to receive one.
Additionally, in response to the principal's request for a replacement of his 18-year-old official vehicle, the President revealed that the Ministry of Education is ordering 50 new vehicles for principals of colleges of education, ensuring that the principal of the SDA College will be among the beneficiaries.
The 'No Fees Stress Policy' initiative is intended to ensure that every Ghanaian child has access to tertiary education, irrespective of their financial background or place of birth. President Mahama emphasized the policy's role in removing financial barriers for first-year students entering public universities and colleges.
The event saw the attendance of notable figures, including New Juabeng Manhene Nana Kwaku Boateng III and New Juabenmanhemaa Nana Juaben Serwaa III.
