Ashanti Mampong: President John Dramani Mahama on Monday joined the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to mourn the Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in Ashanti Mampong. The late Mamponghene, born Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie on December 31, 1939, served in his role for 29 years until his passing in April 2025.According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama was accompanied by several notable figures including Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Mr. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC. Other officials present were Ministers of State such as Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister for the Interior/National Security Minister, and Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister.The funeral also saw the attendance of distinguished personalities such as former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dank wa Akufo-Addo. Additionally, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and Mr. Justice Paul Kwadwo Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice, paid their respects.President Mahama contributed GHS250,000 as a funeral donation. The three-day funeral will conclude with the interment of Daasebre Osei Bonsu's remains at the Mampong Royal Mausoleum at midnight on Monday, June 9.
