President Mahama Inaugurates Takoradi-Cape Coast Highway Dualization Project

Takoradi: President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the dualization of the Takoradi-Cape Coast Highway project. The project, expected to be completed within a 24-month period, will include interchanges, bridges, foot bridges, pedestrian crossings, rest stops, and an axle way station.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama, speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony at Assorku Essaman in the Shama District of the Western Region, stated that the 73.6-kilometer road, divided into three lots for different contractors, aims to enhance transportation, open up the region, and contribute to national development.

The road construction is part of the government's Big Push agenda, which is set to reduce travel time by about 50 percent between Takoradi and Accra. The President highlighted the project as a "legacy of collective efforts, shared responsibility to rebuild Ghana, and a national renewal." He also emphasized the importance of implementing stringent measures on axle load carriage to prolong the road's lifespan.

The government plans to invest two billion dollars annually over five years under the Big Push Initiative to enhance infrastructure in sectors such as roads, health, and agriculture. President Mahama urged the contractors involved to adhere to environmental guidelines, employ local talent, and meet project deadlines.
