TUC Mourns with Government Over Demise of Two Ministers, Six Others

Accra: The Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) has extended its condolences to the President and the People of Ghana following the demise of two ministers of state and six others in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by Mr Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of TUC, said the leadership of TUC and its affiliates received with deep sorrow and shock the tragic news of the military helicopter crash at Adane Sikaman, near Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region. The crash led to the untimely demise of several distinguished Ghanaians, including ministers of state, government functionaries, and military personnel.

The statement extended the TUC's heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, namely Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. Others include Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, First Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate, Obuasi East. The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

The statement further noted, 'This is a great loss not only to their families and loved ones, but also to the Government and people of Ghana.' It concluded by honoring their dedicated service to the nation and praying for strength and comfort for all who mourn, with a wish for their souls to rest with the Lord.
