Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has advocated the promotion of Fintech and e-commerce to facilitate trade and economic participation. Fintech is a term that describes the use of technology to provide financial services and products. He also urged African nations to invest in research and development to support their homegrown innovations.According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama made these statements on Saturday during his address at the Presidential Session of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 in Accra. He highlighted that the Fourth Industrial Revolution presented a significant opportunity for Africa to bypass traditional development models. He emphasized that digital transformation could drive financial inclusion, improve public service delivery, and create new opportunities for the continent's people.President Mahama called for the expansion of internet access and digital infrastructure to bridge the digital divide in Africa. He stated that technology had the power to make Africa more c ompetitive if embraced strategically by African leaders. He reiterated that prosperity could not be achieved without good governance, transparency, and accountability. He noted that investors and businesses thrive in environments with stability, predictable policies, and the rule of law.He expressed concern about the frustration among the youth due to the lack of opportunities and stressed the need for economic growth, investment expansion, and job creation to maintain faith in democratic governance. President Mahama urged leaders to commit to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections.He commended the Africa Prosperity Network for organizing the Africa Prosperity Dialogues and expressed pride in Ghana hosting this important dialogue series. He assured his continued support to enhance future summits. The conference reaffirmed the collective commitment to unlocking Africa's full potential and positioning the continent in the global economic system.The Africa Prosperity Network, a non-profit organization, hosts the Africa Prosperity Dialogues. It aims to facilitate partnerships among political and business leaders, civil society, and academia in Africa. The organization focuses on promoting Africa's prosperity and economic integration, aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063 vision of 'The Africa We Want.'Other African leaders participating in the Presidential Session included President Faure Gnassigbe of Togo and President Azali Assoumani of the Comoros.
