Accra: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to re-elect the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections to ensure the continuation of its transformative development agenda. "The development of our nation is at stake," he declared at a large rally in Accra, to round off the NPP's campaign ahead of the December 7 polls.According to Ghana News Agency, the President emphasized the significance of the NPP's achievements despite global economic difficulties. With the campaign slogan 'It Is Possible', the government claims to have laid a solid foundation for socio-economic progress. The President contrasted the current state of the economy with that under former President John Mahama, highlighting the NPP's economic successes since assuming power in 2017.Political analysts predict a closely contested race in the 2024 presidential elections, as former President John Mahama, the NDC's flagbearer, seeks to return after previous defeats. The NPP maintains that it has met expectations in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure, among others.In education, the 'Free Senior High School (SHS)' programme is said to have benefited approximately 5.7 million young people, alongside infrastructure projects aimed at improving academic conditions. The government also claims credit for creating over two million jobs and leading road infrastructure projects, contributing to economic recovery.President Akufo-Addo emphasized the expansion of healthcare infrastructure through the 'Agenda 111' initiative and improvements in other sectors, asserting that these have enhanced the quality of life for Ghanaians. He stressed the importance of continuity in achieving the country's development goals and urged support for Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.Mr. Stephen Ntim, the NPP National Chairman, encouraged voters to trust the Party, asserting its commitment to fulfilling campaign promises. Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, a Member of Parliament, highlighted the NPP's initiatives such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and Free Maternal Healthcare, which he believes have benefited citizens.Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, expressed confidence in the Party's victory. She called on supporters to vote for the NPP's candidates despite global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, underlining the Party's industrial growth achievements.The government highlights Ghana's trade surplus and increased gross international reserves from 2017 to 2022, despite global challenges. The Ghanaian cedi's depreciation rate averaged 10.75 percent between 2017 and 2022, with a notable depreciation of 30 percent in 2022.
