Accra: The Accra Regional Police Command has successfully rescued 16 victims of suspected human trafficking at Ngleshie Amanfro, a suburb of Accra. The operation came as a relief to the victims, who include 12 males and four females believed to be nationals of C´te d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
According to Ghana News Agency, the individuals have been identified as Denbele Mohammed, 20; Sawadu Razak, 20; Olivier Yasei, 19; Wilfred Kwako, 18; Philbe Kwame, 25; Kante Shamar, 19; Kwame Lambel, 24; Kone Musah, 24; Lasnel Kante, 18; Sajor Dijala, 19; Abass Jeril, 19; Wadrago Alice, 22; Nyamego Winkode, 22; Santa Elodi, 23; Oamba Fatooma, 22; and Chaka Kante, 17. The rescue operation was initiated following a complaint received on July 24, 2025, about the disappearance of 17-year-old Chaka Kante, an Ivorian, who had been missing for nine months after being recruited to Ghana under the guise of joining a football team.
A statement by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Command, disclosed that a team of police officers, acting on information, accompanied the complainant to Toptown, a section of Amanfro. There, the victims were found in a residential structure and were subsequently rescued. They are now being sheltered and arrangements are underway to hand them over to the Ghana Immigration Service for profiling and potential repatriation as per immigration protocols.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims were recruited by individuals believed to be associated with a company named Q-Net. The victims were reportedly lured with false promises of lucrative employment opportunities in Europe. The Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the trafficking network.
In a public advisory, the Command urged vigilance among parents and guardians against deceptive recruitment and travel schemes that promise overseas employment. It also encouraged anyone with pertinent information to contact the nearest police station.
