Sunyani: Mr Kofi Vinyo, a physically challenged agro-processor, has made a generous donation of 30 bags of corn grits to the Sunyani Central Prisons. Describing prisons as a “great house,” he emphasized that anyone could end up in prison and highlighted that not everyone there is a criminal. He called for support to improve the poor conditions of the nation’s prisons.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Vinyo, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwatire-based Kofi Vinyo Company Limited (KVCL), a company specializing in tiger nut processing, made these remarks during an interview. The interview took place on the sidelines of a short presentation ceremony at the company’s plant site in Kwatire, located in the Sunyani West Municipality.

Mr Vinyo stressed the importance of supporting the prison service to aid in the successful reintegration of convicts into society after serving their sentences. He urged other companies, as well as corporate and religious bodies, to extend their assistance to the central prison.

Superintendent Dennis Peasah, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, expressed gratitude to the donor for his benevolence and appealed for continued support for the upkeep of the 687 inmates. He noted that the donated food items would significantly enhance the nutritional quality of meals provided to the inmates, thereby improving their health.

Chief Superintendent Diana Kwarteng, who oversees the female prisons, mentioned that the facility currently houses nine inmates. She also appealed for similar support to ensure the well-being of the female inmates.
