NYA Enrolls 500 Youth in Apprenticeship Programme in Western North Region

Accra: More than 500 young men and women in the Western North Region have been matriculated to benefit from free technical and vocational training for six to twelve months under the newly launched National Apprenticeship Programme. The initiative aims to provide essential skills in various trades to enhance employability and foster economic growth.

According to Ghana News Agency, the beneficiaries will be attached to over 100 master craftsmen in accredited fields such as dressmaking, fashion and design, engine repairs, electricals, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), construction, and carpentry. Mr. Jessy Yaw Aidoo, the Western North Regional Director for the National Youth Authority (NYA), emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government's 'Resetting Agenda,' which focuses on job creation, youth empowerment, and building a robust economy.

Mr. Aidoo urged all apprentices to remain disciplined, focused, and fully committed to their training, while cautioning them against abandoning the programme midway. He also called on the master craftsmen to mentor and support their apprentices, helping them avoid negative influences such as drug abuse. He highlighted that the programme would be closely monitored to ensure it delivers meaningful outcomes for national development.

Mr. Wilbert Petty Bretum, the Western North Regional Minister, stated that the programme had been designed to provide free apprenticeship training to the youth, women, and persons with disabilities to equip them with employable skills for sustainable livelihoods. He encouraged the master craftsmen to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while instilling courage, discipline, and good character in their apprentices.
