NSA Chief Welcomes World Bowls Delegation to Ghana

Accra: Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has warmly welcomed a delegation from World Bowls to Ghana as part of ongoing efforts to develop lesser-known sports across the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, the team included Brett O'Riley, President of World Bowls; Sue Beatt, Chairperson of the Scottish Sports Association; James Owen, President of World Para Bowls; and David Hamer, President of Bowls South Africa. The visit is described as timely and strategic, providing an opportunity for both parties to set a roadmap towards the launch of Ghana Bowls.

Mr. Ampofo, in an interview with GNA Sports, expressed excitement at welcoming the high-powered delegation, marking the beginning of something significant. "I am very delighted to welcome the President of World Bowls and his team. The visit to Ghana is a milestone, a new beginning and I am delighted and thrilled," he stated.

Brett O'Riley expressed enthusiasm about the prospects for Bowls in Ghana, emphasizing its inclusivity as a sport for all ages and abilities. He mentioned that the World Bowls delegation, in collaboration with Ghana Bowls and the National Sports Authority, aims to facilitate Ghana's participation in the discipline at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

He acknowledged Ghana's history of producing sporting heroes, such as former world champion Azumah Nelson, whom he described as one of his favorite sports personalities. The President revealed the delegation's confidence in Ghana's potential to become a powerhouse for Bowls in the coming years.

Mr. Brett thanked the Director-General of the National Sports Authority and his team for their support, signaling a promising future for the sport in the region.
