NPP Member Advocates for Amb Edward Boateng as National Chairman

Sunyani: Mr Richard Kwadwo Adu, a prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed that the party's success in the 2028 elections hinges significantly on dynamic national leadership beyond just having a flagbearer. He emphasized the need for a national chairman with substantial grassroots support, endorsing Ambassador Edward Boateng for the role.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Adu highlighted that Ambassador Boateng, who previously served as Ghana's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to China, is well-suited to enhance the party's electoral prospects in 2028. During an interaction with the media in Sunyani regarding the NPP's upcoming 2026 Presidential Primary, Mr Adu, who is also vying for the Wenchi constituency chairmanship in the Bono Region, remarked, "As a political party, we can only build our prospects if we have dynamic individuals like Amb Boateng who has an excellent relationship with the party grassroots."

Mr Adu stressed that the grassroots, encompassing various polling stations and constituencies, are vital to the NPP's structure. "The party requires leadership that the grassroots people can easily approach and interact with," he stated. As a former youth organiser in the Wenchi constituency and ex-Assembly member, Mr Adu underscored the necessity of strategic leadership selection, emphasizing the party's preparedness to regain political power.

He further noted that the youth within the party are seeking leaders who grasp the dynamics of modern politics. He believes that Ambassador Boateng possesses the acumen to leverage this energy to rejuvenate the party ahead of the next General Election. Reflecting on past challenges, Mr Adu cautioned against leadership that marginalizes grassroots members, citing the impact of such decisions on the 2024 election results.

Mr Adu praised Ambassador Boateng's contributions as a business executive and former diplomat, noting his influence on NPP governance and policy. He highlighted Boateng's tenure as the Director General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), where he served from December 2021 to November 2023. SIGA, established by Act 990, aims to ensure efficiency and profitability in state-owned enterprises while promoting sound corporate governance.
