Accra: The National Paralympic Committee (NPC)-Ghana, in collaboration with its partners, has appointed thirty-eight sports journalists to serve as media administrative officers. This initiative is aimed at promoting and developing paralympic sports in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, this appointment is also a strategic move in preparation for the first Open Para-Sports Classification Festival scheduled for 2025. The campaign is designed to reposition para-sports as a tool for inclusion, empowerment, and sporting excellence.
The selected journalists will work with various para federations. These include the Para-athletics Association, represented by Benaiah Elorm Dafeamekpor; Para Powerlifting Association by Bill Eshun; Ghana Wheel Tennis by Gabriel Ofei; and Para Swimming Association by Micheal Obeng and Haruna Mubarak. Other associations include Para Archery, Shooting Para Sports, Blind Sports Federation, and Amputee Football, among others, each represented by appointed journalists.
Additional appointments were made within para table tennis, cerebral palsy sports, wheelchair softball, para badminton, para judo, and boccia sports, each with designated journalists to further the cause of para-sports.
At the NPC media level, the appointed media officers include notable names such as Sammy Heywood Okine, Victor Kwawu, Abednego Cole Mensah, and others. Saddick Adams, who serves as the Head of Communications, presented the appointments on behalf of NPC President Sampson Deen. He emphasized that this initiative will significantly enhance the visibility of para sports throughout Ghana.
