North Tongu District Assembly Supports Schoolgirls on Menstrual Hygiene Day

North Tongu: The North Tongu District Assembly, under the leadership of Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, the District Chief Executive, held a special commemorative event at Battor R.C. Junior High School to mark International Menstrual Hygiene Day. The event united students from Battor R.C. JHS, Battor D/A JHS, and Battor Methodist JHS to educate, support, and empower young girls on the importance of menstrual hygiene.

According to Ghana News Agency, the programme included the distribution of free sanitary pads to the students, an initiative led by Madam Doe in alignment with former President John Dramani Mahama's vision to uphold the health, dignity, and confidence of young girls across the country. DCE Doe expressed that the gesture is a commitment to ensuring that no girl's education or daily life is hindered due to a lack of access to menstrual hygiene products.

Madam Doe described the engagement as inspiring and expressed pride that North Tongu prioritizes the welfare of its girls. She thanked all partners and supporters who contributed to the initiative and encouraged continued support for girl-focused programmes across the district.

The students expressed gratitude for the kind gesture and noted that the provision of sanitary pads would significantly ease the challenges they face during menstruation. They shared that the support would reduce absenteeism and improve their overall well-being, allowing them to attend school with more confidence and comfort.

International Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed annually on May 28, aims to break taboos surrounding menstruation and raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management.
