Keta Municipal Health Directorate Adjudged Best in First-Half Year Ranking

Keta: The Keta Municipal Health Directorate has been adjudged the best health directorate among the 18 districts in the Volta Region in the first half of 2025 districts performance assessment table. The achievement was drawn from performances in various areas of delivery, including early initiation of breastfeeding education, achievement of syphilis testing, teenage pregnancy target education, and detection, among others.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Keta Municipal Health Directorate has made significant strides in improving healthcare delivery with some notable achievements. These include over 1,236 pregnant women registered for Antenatal Care (ANC) during the period, representing 92 percent coverage. In the area of family planning acceptor rate and TD+2 coverage, the directorate accumulated 36 percent and 78 percent respectively on the mid-year chart.

The directorate also achieved 100 percent testing for pregnant women for syphilis and was ranked among the best-performing districts that recorded higher percentages of anemia clients at 36 weeks of gestation at the half-year mark. The directorate was ranked number one with 72 percent in skilled deliveries and 100 percent in early initiation of breastfeeding rate among the 18 districts in the Volta region.

Other achievements include 100 percent PNC registrants within the first 48 hours after delivery, 73 percent of Penta 3 coverage, 76 percent of Measles-rubella coverage, 24 percent of encounters with antibiotics prescribed, and 95 percent of medicines prescribed by generic names, among others.

Mr. Emmanuel Kona, the Keta Municipal Health Director, expressed excitement about the achievement and promised to re-strategize and work beyond limits to maintain the first position by the end of the year. "We thanked God for helping us through the first half of the year with this achievement, congratulations to our gallant health workers and all staff," he said.

Mr. Faruk Iddrissu, the Administrator of Keta Municipal Hospital, also thanked MTN Ghana and other individuals for their support over the years and urged the general public to prioritize their health and visit the various health facilities within the area for quality healthcare when needed.

Ghana News Agency gathered that the Keta Municipal Hospital has recently inaugurated a new wound care center, expected to improve healthcare delivery in the municipality. The center was made possible through the generosity of Mr. Mawuko Dzikunu, the Executive Chairman of Glory Oil Company Limited. Some residents expressed satisfaction with the new achievement of the Keta Municipal Health Directorate, recognizing its hard work and dedication to providing quality healthcare services.
