Accra: Mr. Ibrahim Tia, the Minister-designate for North East Region, has announced that the region possesses vast arable lands capable of cultivating rice and tomatoes to feed the entire nation. He emphasized the potential for significant agricultural output given the requisite investment.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Tia made this declaration during his appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra for his vetting. He urged investors to focus on the North East Region, expressing the region's readiness to collaborate with strategic partners to actualize its vision of creating jobs for the youth.
The Minister-designate pointed out the large tracts of arable land available in the region, which, with the necessary funding, could produce enough rice to supply the entire country. He highlighted the East Mamprusi district as having suitable lands for tomato cultivation and suggested the potential to establish a tomato factory to support national food supply.
Mr. Tia also mentioned plans to utilize the watermelon factory in Walewale, which was commissioned by the previous government, to support local watermelon farmers and boost the regional economy.
Addressing security concerns, the nominee expressed his commitment to collaborating with security agencies to tackle armed robbery and other threats in the region. Additionally, he highlighted the region's tourist attractions and pledged to increase public awareness to attract more visitors.
