Adaklu: Mr. Jerry Ameko, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Adaklu, has firmly asserted that no part of Adaklu land will be ceded to any other district or traditional area. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the district’s territorial boundaries and maximizing revenue. Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for a new library, ICT center, and science laboratory at Adaklu Kodzobi Basic School, Mr. Ameko highlighted the need for vigilance against encroachments from neighboring districts.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ameko criticized the Ho Municipal Assembly for allegedly attempting to collect revenue from Adaklu communities and underscored the district’s resolve to protect its financial interests. He expressed concerns over major development projects meant for Ho Municipal being sited on Adaklu land, potentially depriving Adaklu of vital revenue.
As the Dean of DCEs in the Volta Region, Mr. Ameko stressed the value of education and called for a united effort to enhance educational standards in the district. He urged the formation of local task forces to monitor student performance, particularly in the Basic Education Certificate Examination. The DCE also announced plans for a community ICT center, encouraging the district’s girls to participate in a national ICT competition.
Mr. Ameko acknowledged the district’s potential as a tourism destination and emphasized the need to improve telecommunications infrastructure. He pledged his support for the new project and promised to collaborate with Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, to secure resources for its completion.
Dr. Hilary Gbedemah, representing the project’s sponsors, revealed that the community would cover a portion of the costs. Sponsored by Eric and Auriol Earle from the United Kingdom through Ghana School Aid, the project is valued at 20,000 pounds sterling. Dr. Gbedemah urged the community to focus on solutions rather than challenges and praised the developmental efforts of Togbe Dzegblade IV, the local chief.
Mrs. Thywill Eyra Kpe, Regional Director of the Department of Gender, encouraged parents to pay special attention to their children’s development, particularly girls. She lauded the project as a lasting testament to the community’s progress.
Mr. Mac-Peter Dumatonu, Adaklu District Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the sponsors, noting the project’s district-wide benefits. Togbe Dzegblade committed his resources to cover part of the community’s financial obligation and appealed for support with construction materials. He lamented the lack of government-sponsored projects in the area and called for attention to the community’s infrastructure needs. Mr. Kofi Ohene from Ghana School Aid contributed 15 bags of cement to support the initiative.
