NLA Donates GHS 100,000 to Support Victims of Tidal Waves in Volta Region

Accra: Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has announced the receipt of a GHC100,000 donation from the National Lottery Authority (NLA), through its Good Causes Foundation, to aid victims affected by recent tidal waves that devastated parts of the region's coastline.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donation comes at a critical time, offering much-needed relief to displaced families in the hardest-hit communities of Agavedzi, Asalakope, and Amutsinu.

Mr. Gunu expressed gratitude, noting that the NLA is among the first institutions to respond to the appeal for help, highlighting their commitment to national service beyond their core mandate. The funds will be directed toward emergency relief efforts, including the provision of shelter, food, and clothing for affected residents, as many families have been forced to evacuate their homes following the tidal surges that caused damage to property and infrastructure in the coastal area.

He extended his gratitude on behalf of the people of the Volta Region, particularly to the Director-General of the NLA, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, for the Authority's swift response. Mr. Gunu emphasized unity in rebuilding lives and restoring hope.

The Volta Region has experienced recurring tidal waves in recent years, prompting calls for long-term interventions to protect vulnerable coastal communities. The donation from NLA is expected to offer immediate relief as authorities and stakeholders continue efforts toward recovery and resilience building.
