Accra: The International Labour Organisation has initiated a 3-day training program for personnel of Security and Child Protection Agencies in Ghana, focusing on Child Labour and Social Welfare Information Management Systems (SWIMS). The session is part of the ILO's ACCEL AFRICA Project, which aims to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement and child protection agencies in preventing and protecting children from exploitation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the training also aims to bolster policy formulation, coordination, monitoring, and implementation of the National Plan of Action for the Elimination of Child Labour and Human Trafficking in Ghana. Mr. Bismark Quartey, the Ghana National Project Coordinator for the ACCEL Project, highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that it is crucial for security and child protection agencies to collaborate effectively in order to achieve enforcement in the fight against child labour.
Mr. Quartey explained that despite numerous awareness and sensitization campaigns, child exploitation continues in cocoa farms and mining communities. The training intends to equip Security and Child Protection agencies with the necessary skills to enhance their operations and share the knowledge with other colleagues within their organizations.
