Residents of the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have expressed happiness over the adjustment of the prevailing curfew from 2000 hours to 0600 hours, effective Tuesday. The curfew, which took effect from November 21, 2023, started from 1700 hrs to 0600 hrs. This comes after reports of sporadic gunshots were recorded in the Nkwanta township over a tribal disturbance leading to deaths, injuries and the shutdown of businesses.Mr Jonas Agbeko, a trader, expressed happiness, saying the extension of the curfew would go a long way to help them execute their businesses without rush.Another food vendor also shared her happiness about the extension, saying that at least their food will no longer go to waste. They, however, appealed to the government to extend it more or lift the curfew outright since people were now going about their normal lives freely and smoothly.Mr Henry Quartey, the Minister of the Interior, had warned the residents against carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in Nkwanta. The Minister said the adjustment was made based on the advice of the Oti Regional Security Council and by the Executive Instrument. He said the government wished to appeal to all to exercise restraint and to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all conflicts and disputes.Source: Ghana News Agency
