Nkwanta: The Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School has observed Menstrual Hygiene Day to deepen sensitization among students. The event was held at the forecourt of the School's Assembly Hall with the aim of raising awareness about menstrual health, breaking cultural stigmas surrounding menstruation, and empowering young ladies to promote body positivity and self-care.
According to Ghana News Agency, the programme was led by Madam Millicent Boafo, the school's Girl Child Coordinator, who interacted with students in two separate sessions. The first session involved the entire student body and focused on general information about menstruation and menstrual hygiene. It also highlighted the importance of boys supporting their sisters and female friends during menstruation by helping with sanitary materials and household chores.
The second session was exclusive to girls and addressed specific concerns such as maintaining bodily hygiene during menstruation, dispelling misconceptions, and discussing dos and don'ts. With the support of other staff members of the school, the session concluded successfully. Madam Boafo emphasized that by celebrating Menstrual Hygiene Day, the school aims to create a more informed and supportive environment for young girls to manage their menstrual health with confidence.
At the end of the programme, students shared their experiences and pledged to reflect on what they have learned by applying it to their daily lives. The menstrual hygiene day celebration was observed on the theme, 'together for a period friendly world.'
