The Ningo-Prampram District Assembly (NiPDA), the traditional authorities, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, have jointly organised a clean-up exercise to kickstart the 2024 Homowo festival.?The cleanup covered the two traditional areas of the district, Prampram and Ningo.Ms Evelyn Nani, the Ningo-Prampram District Environmental Health Officer, noted that the clean-up exercise was organised annually as part of the preparation for the festival and urged the community members to clean their towns regularly.?Ms. Nani said that the Assembly was working together with the traditional authorities to raise environmental awareness in the various communities within the district to help enhance their trade and commerce capabilities by leveraging waste management and recycling.She stated that it was the duty of all to keep the town clean, warning that poor sanitation could lead to health issues and urged everyone to observe good sanitation practices during the festival and beyond.Mr. John Charwey, a member of the Pr ampram Homowo Planning Committee of the Prampram Traditional Council, said the clean-up exercise was important as it helped maintain the town's cleanliness in preparation for visitors, both natives, citizens, and those from the diaspora who will join in the celebration.He said they sought to use the festival celebration to promote community-based environmental action for a cleaner and healthier world.Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of the Prampram Traditional Area,?emphasised the importance of cleanliness to the youth, urging them to take pride in their environment, and thanked the residents for their cooperation and active participation.He expressed the desire for this year's Homowo celebrations to build on the existing peace and harmony in the community, promoting an atmosphere of serenity and understanding.Source: Ghana News Agency
