Nine Female Candidates Unsuccessful in Volta Parliamentary Elections

ACCRA: Nine out of 11 female candidates who contested in the 2024 parliamentary elections in the Volta Region have failed in their bids for Parliament, with only two incumbents retaining their seats.According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie and Madam Jocelyn Tetteh were the only female candidates to win re-election. Gomashie, the incumbent and MP-elect for Ketu South, secured 78,902 votes, representing 92.90 percent, while Tetteh, the incumbent and MP-elect for North Dayi, garnered 12,778 votes, amounting to 73.01 percent. Both ran on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).The constituencies of Hohoe, Ketu North, South Tongu, Central Tongu, Afadzato South, and Kpando saw unsuccessful female contenders. The remainder of the 18 Members of Parliament elected in the region are male, all representing the NDC.The male MPs-elect include Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey for Keta, Mr. Richard Kwame Sefe for Anlo, Mr. Eric Edem Agbana for Ketu North, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor for Akatsi South, Mr. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe for Akatsi North, and Mr. Maxwell Lukutor for South Tongu. Additional MPs-elect are Mr. Alexander Roosevelt Hottordze for Central Tongu, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for North Tongu, Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza for Adaklu, Mr. Agbeve Charles for Agortime Ziope, and Mr. Richmond Kpotosu Edem for Ho Central.Completing the list are Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah for Ho West, Mr. Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor for South Dayi, Mr. Sebastian Deh for Kpando, Mr. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo for Hohoe, and Mr. Frank Afriyie for Afadzato South.
