Accra: Ghana's major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are preparing for grand rallies scheduled for Thursday. These rallies mark the culmination of their campaigns before the significant general election on December 7, 2024. Both parties will hold their events at locations along the same axis in Accra, providing an essential platform to present their policies and programs to the electorate. This moment is particularly crucial for swaying undecided voters just two days before the election.According to Ghana News Agency, the NDC plans to convene its rally at Zurak Park in Madina under the theme 'Resetting Ghana - Let's Finish Strong.' The party aims to leverage the perceived shortcomings of the current NPP-led government to encourage voters to back its candidate, John Dramani Mahama, for a return to power. Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC's National Communications Officer, described the rally as an 'epoch-making event' intended to energize the party base and ou tline its governance agenda. The rally will focus on tackling economic challenges, addressing corruption, and offering a 'fresh start' for Ghana. The event is scheduled to begin at 1200 hours and will be attended by key party executives.Conversely, the NPP's rally will be held at the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, opposite the UG Sports Stadium. Named the 'Possibilities Victory Rally,' the event will spotlight the achievements of the NPP government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's leadership. It will also promote the vision of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's presidential candidate, focusing on the goal of 'breaking the eight,' which refers to the NPP's objective of securing a third consecutive term in office. Key figures such as President Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and vice-presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh are expected to attend. The NPP aims to showcase its accomplishments in economic management, infrastructure development, and social intervent ions to persuade voters to re-elect the party.Political analysts view these rallies as pivotal opportunities for both parties to solidify their support and appeal to undecided voters. However, some security experts have raised concerns about the closeness of the events' locations, fearing potential clashes. Given the election's status as one of the most fiercely contested in Ghana's history, authorities are urged to implement robust security measures to prevent any unrest.
