Accra: The National Democratic Congress Majority Caucus in Parliament visited the family of the late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, to express their condolences following his tragic death. Dr. Murtala Mohammed was among eight individuals who perished in a military helicopter crash on August 6.
According to Ghana News Agency, the crash claimed the lives of several key figures, including Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and six others, when the helicopter went down in the Ashanti Region. The Majority Caucus conveyed their sympathy and offered support to the grieving family at their home in Tse Addo, Accra.
Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the New Patriotic Party MP for Karaga, represented the family during the visit. He led an Islamic prayer and encouraged the family to find comfort in the enduring legacy of Dr. Murtala Mohammed. "We are worried here; we are consoling each other, but our brother is in a better place," he remarked.
This visit was part of a broader national mourning effort to honor the individuals who died in what is considered one of the country's most somber events in recent history. Among the deceased were high-profile government officials, including the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who also served as the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
The crash also resulted in the deaths of Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former NDC parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, and NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong. Additionally, the three crew members from the Ghana Air Force-Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah-were also among the victims.
