Accra: The Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, has highlighted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's achievements in delivering tangible economic results, making life more affordable for Ghanaians.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ayariga made these remarks during his opening address at the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament. He urged support for the Finance Minister's efforts to maintain fiscal prudence, strengthen the Ghana cedi, reduce inflation and interest rates, and rejuvenate the private sector. Ayariga noted the significant rebound of the Ghanaian cedi, which appreciated by 24.1% against the US dollar and 16.2% against the British pound since January 2025, leading to reduced transport fares and lower prices of imported goods.
He further detailed a 14.1% strengthening of the cedi against the Euro and reductions in fuel prices, with Super XP dropping from GH?15.85 to GH?13.27 and Diesel XP from GH?15.99 to GH?13.87. Ayariga also outlined the NDC government's legislative agenda, including the introduction of bills and regulations aimed at enhancing Ghana's financial stability and growth. These include the Mid-Year Budget review, guidelines for the Common Fund, and amendments in the financial sector.
The Majority Leader, also an NDC Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, underscored the importance of accountability and transparency. He reiterated the NDC's commitment to investigating corruption and maladministration, highlighting probes into COVID-19 expenditures, the Agyapa Royalties deal, the PDS scandal, and sole-sourcing practices. Parliament resumed its business on Tuesday, May 27, following a recess that began on March 29, 2025.
