Accra: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to deliver free, fair, and peaceful elections. A statement signed by Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders, urged Ghanaians to vote for former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the December 7 general election. The Council gathered on December 3 to discuss critical issues relating to the upcoming elections.According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Iddrisu emphasized the importance of peaceful elections, referencing the recent signing of a peace accord by the presidential candidates, including former President John Mahama. The Council expressed concerns over the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) past electoral conduct, urging vigilance against potential disruptions similar to those witnessed in Ayawaso and Techiman in previous years.The Council accused the NPP of not adhering to electoral rules and criticized the current state of affairs in Ghana. They highlighted a nationwide demand for change and questioned the Akufo-Addo government's commitment to ensuring a fair election process. The Council also criticized the government's recent projects and resource distribution as attempts to sway voters.Alhaji Iddrisu called on the National Elections Task Force to ensure peaceful elections and urged the NDC to abide by the laid-out plans. He warned against the use of vigilante groups and called for heightened vigilance among voters and the media to support the election security task force.The Council urged the Electoral Commission to ensure transparent elections, citing concerns over management issues and last-minute changes. They stressed the importance of accurate vote counting to avoid discrepancies seen in the past.In conclusion, Alhaji Iddrisu praised the NDC leadership for their efforts in protecting the party's interests and encouraged party members to remain vigilant.
