Sunyani: The Bono Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has conveyed their appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating a female candidate as the Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
According to Ghana News Agency, the president’s nominee, Hajia Fatimatu Abubakar, received unanimous approval from the Berekum Municipal Assembly to assume the role of MCE. The Women’s Wing has urged Hajia Abubakar to justify the faith placed in her by prioritizing development and working diligently in her new position.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Hajia Seitu Banda, the Dormaa West Constituency Women Organizer of the NDC, expressed gratitude to President Mahama for considering their request in nominating a female candidate. The assembly’s 38 members voted unanimously in favor of the nominee in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission in Berekum.
“We expect the MCE to work hard to show that women are equally capable of leading and driving national progress,” stated Hajia Banda. Similarly, Madam Mary Fosua, the Jaman South Women Organizer of the NDC, congratulated Hajia Abubakar and encouraged her to work tirelessly to advance the municipality’s development.
Madam Salamatu Adams, Assembly Member for Boadan Electoral Area in the Berekum Municipality and Bono Regional Credit Manager of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), emphasized the importance of collaboration among Assembly Members regardless of political affiliations. She expressed confidence in the newly appointed MCE’s ability to drive development initiatives that will enhance the lives of the local population.
