NCCE forms Inter-Party Dialogue Committee to promote peaceful elections

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the North Tongu District the Volta Region has established an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) to promote peaceful elections.The committee, launched on the theme: 'Together we can build Ghana, so get involved,' brings together representatives from various political parties, including the NPP, NDC, and GUM, as well as stakeholders from the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAG), Electoral Commission (EC), religious groups, and security agencies.The IPDC aims to promote peace and tranquility before, during, and after the upcoming general elections in December.Mr. Daniel Glikpo, the North Tongu NCCE Director, emphasized the committee's role in monitoring and reporting cases of electoral misconduct and ensuring that political parties avoid electoral offences.He said that the upcoming electoral period presented a critical time for the country and it was essential to ensure that voters were well-informed and engaged.Mr Glikpo indicated that the IPDC would create awareness about the influence of money in the electoral process and encourage transparency and integrity.'We would educate the public, identify and counter false information that can undermine the electoral process,' he added.The NCCE Director noted that they would also enhance religious tolerance.He called for the support of the North Tongu District Assembly, office of the Member of Parliament and other relevant stakeholders to achieve their objectives.Mr Elvis Jones Addo, a representative of the EC, reiterated the need to ensure peace at the polling centres.He indicated that the EC had trained officials to man the 154 polling stations in the district to avert possible political disputes.He entreated all the political parties to engage the EC whenever necessary.He also urged political parties to give their agents in-depth training to enable them file statements of poll for transparency.Reverend James Akussah, the Chairman of Local Council of Churches in Ba ttor, stated that the political parties should unite and encourage peace among their members.He cited a few political chaos from previous election years and advised that they should be averted.He also urged the political leaders to be cautious of their statements in the media.The representatives from the various political parties unanimously pledged to adhere to the necessary rules and regulations governing the upcoming general elections.They stated that they are committed to the success of the elections and assured that their respective parties would accept the upcoming general election results.They also called on the EC to work diligently as well as give special attention to persons with disability at the polls.Source: Ghana News Agency
